The digital business landscape has changed so dynamically in recent years that even these very technical terms have emerged as ubiquitous buzzwords: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Machine Learning (ML). While it may not be necessary for everyone to understand the intricacies, grasping the basics and practical implementations is crucial for those keen on keeping up with digital innovation. This article aims to demystify “AI” and its key components and provide a clear and understandable overview.
What is AI?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines – making them think and learn like humans. AI is an umbrella term encompassing various subfields, all of which contribute to creating intelligent systems capable of performing tasks that normally require human cognition. Although the idea of AI often evokes images of robots and futuristic technologies, its real-world applications are already transforming many industries.
We could be bold enough to say that AI as such doesn’t exist - just yet.
What we can encompass with AI is the branch of computer science that is researching systems capable of performing human tasks. For now, the magic we so desperately seek and talk about probably lies in different approaches used in the research and which, for now, are the AI we talk about. It is not one “thing”.
